Feedback from Day 3
The impact of the project was brainstormed by the team. The following comments were made:
- More confidence in moving children forward quickly in a lesson in a relevant way – finding gaps and addressing them
- Better understanding of where the children currently are in their understanding and more ideas about how to go about finding this out if I don’t know.
- Teachers are now more reflective and have deeper understanding of the theory behind the strategies
- We’re doing things for a purpose – not accountability
- Has made me hone my practice in the classroom and ensure that there is purpose in everything I do – has become the way I teach
- The whole project has made me more aware of effective teaching strategies and how children learn. It has had a positive impact on my teaching, but also the children’s engagement and learning. The children in my class know now where they are in their learning and how to improve.
- It has made me more aware of how to place greater responsibility for feedback and progression in the hands of the pupils
- More specific focused learning objectives and better use of success criteria
- Speaking and listening skills have improved
- Children more knowing about what makes a good piece of writing
- Skilling up children in learning techniques to self-improve
- Giving ownership and greater engagement
- Moving away from ability grouping is amazing –essential to developing a growth mindset culture
- Much more effective partner work now embedded, which has increased the pace of learning
- There is now more visual impact and evidence in books
- Open ended questions are now used to assess prior knowledge
- A more positive learning culture with the growth mindset noticeably changing the way the children think ‘I can do it’
- Children know that learning is an ongoing process – a journey not a destination
- More supportive classroom ethos
- One school had changed their behaviour policy to include learning behaviours
- Children are eager for challenge and improvement
