Pupils had been generating success criteria from comparing products of excellent and not so good, which had helped with marking. Mini-plenaries had focused on continual evaluation.
Success criteria were being used when appropriate.
Students had produced their own checklists of what they should include in BTEC H and S studies using a unit content sheet. This had had an impact on the quality of student work.
One teacher had asked students what they thought examiners would be looking for. By discussing describing, explaining and analysing student were able to consolidate their literacy skills.
Delaying the LO is widely used as a technique in secondary classrooms. The emphasis is on hooking students at the start and having big questions and big pictures.
